Alsergrund

Alsergrund, the 9. Bezirk, is Vienna's university quarter. The main campus of the Universität Wien sits at its southern edge, the Allgemeines Krankenhaus medical complex covers most of its centre, and Berggasse 19, Sigmund Freud's apartment and the museum that grew from it, anchors the cultural register. The traveller uses Alsergrund for the post-Freud-museum lunch, the academic-press café where students still read on paper, and the Servitenviertel, a tight cobbled pocket around the Servitenkirche with five or six restaurants serving the campus's senior end. Less polished than the Innere Stadt, more readable than the suburbs.
