Founded in 1950 by the Franciscan friars of Santa Croce to teach war orphans a trade, the Scuola del Cuoio is a working leather atelier and boutique behind the basilica, run by the founding Gori family's descendants. Artisans hand-finish bags, wallets and accessories at benches you walk among. A living craft institution, not a souvenir shop.
