Istanbul's Black Sea summer escape with sand beaches and beach clubs
Kilyos (Kumköy) sits at Istanbul's Black Sea edge, a 30-minute drive north of Sarıyer where the Bosphorus opens into open water. For generations it has been the city's summer escape, wide sandy beaches, beach clubs with DJ lineups, and seafood shacks at the Rumeli Feneri end. The season is short and intense: June through September the road fills on weekends with Istanbulites heading for Solar, Suma, and Milyon, then falls quiet again until next summer.
