Sotogrande

At the western limit of the province, well beyond Marbella, Sotogrande is a planned community of a particular kind — low-density, polo-and-marina money, old-school discretion rather than Banús flash. The dining is split between the elegant marina, where terraces look onto the masts, and the quieter rooms of the residential estate, anchored by classics like Cortijo Santa María 1962. The crowd is international and seasonal, peaking when the polo and the sailing fill the calendar, and the cooking follows suit: Mediterranean, produce-led, more interested in quality than spectacle. It is the coast at its most private — the place people come to be left alone.
