Built in 1907 by Nesim Levi to spare residents a 155-step climb, the Historic Elevator rises 40 metres up the cliff in Karataş and remains a beloved İzmir landmark with a wooden observation terrace over the gulf. It is a piece of the city's cosmopolitan past that locals still use at sunset. A short, genuine cultural stop rather than a manufactured attraction.
