Gerald Diffey's Melbourne wine-bar soul, transplanted to Gros
The second outpost of Gerald Diffey's celebrated Melbourne bar trades on vinyl, low light and a deeply personal wine list that leans local with French, Italian and Australian detours, much of it by the glass. A short surprise menu of Basque-leaning small plates follows the bottle rather than the other way round. It is a 50 Best Discovery listing and the room regulars treat as a living room.
Sit at the counter, let them pour, take the set menu. Closed Mondays; vinyl and conversation run late.
