Israeli-German owners, Munich's best hummus on Metzstrasse
Israeli kitchen inside the Münchner Volkstheater, relocated 2021, fully landed
Schmock spent years on Augustenstraße, then moved into the new Münchner Volkstheater on Tumblingerstraße in 2021 and finally has the room the cooking always deserved: high-ceilinged, stage-adjacent, designed for the post-show hour. The menu is creative Israeli with Arabic and international threads, vegan small plates, grilled octopus, slow-braised lamb shank, no pork, and the wine list runs predominantly Israeli (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay) with the depth a stage-bar needs. Open until 23:30 weekdays, midnight on Saturdays.
The relocation paid off, Tumblingerstraße sits the place into the Volkstheater audience flow without losing the Glockenbach walk-in. The chapter's working answer for 'where do I eat Israeli in Munich' that doesn't default to the Marais-style imports.
