Altstadt-Lehel
Two stars upstairs at Munich's 320-year-old delicatessen.
Ali Güngörmüş's Mediterranean-Levantine room inside the Fünf Höfe.
Ali Güngörmüş, born in Tunceli, raised in Hamburg, formerly one Michelin star at Le Canard Nouveau before he moved to Munich, opened Pageou in 2014 in the Fünf Höfe arcade and named it after his hometown. The cooking is Mediterranean and Levantine threaded through classical French training: a four-course vegetarian Levante menu and a five- or six-course chef's menu, à la carte at lunch. Gault-Millau gives it 17 points. For Istanbul guests this is the room where the chef's Anatolian roots show up explicitly without the cooking ever tipping into theme-restaurant territory.
The Fünf Höfe location matters: lunch here, then twenty minutes' walk through the arcades to Marienplatz. Güngörmüş is a household-name TV chef in Germany, which is incidental, the cooking carries it.
