Breizh Café
Le Marais
Bertrand Larcher's original Paris crêperie, Bordier butter, Breton cider, Tokyo-trained discipline.
Since 1979 on rue des Rosiers, the Pletzl falafel sandwich Lenny Kravitz and Natalie Portman keep coming back for.
L'As du Fallafel has been making the same sandwich on rue des Rosiers since 1979, a kosher Tunisian-Jewish institution in the heart of the Pletzl, the Marais's historic Jewish quarter. Crisp herb-flecked chickpea balls, fried eggplant, harissa, tahini, hummus, cabbage, a warm pita that holds it all together for exactly the time it takes to walk down the street. Two queues: takeaway on the left (faster, eaten on the move), dine-in on the right (slower, fluorescent-lit, faster than you'd think). Lenny Kravitz photo on the wall; Natalie Portman called it her favourite Paris meal in 2024. There is no debate about which falafel, there is just this falafel, and the others.
Cult flag. Get takeaway, eat walking. Closed Friday evening and Saturday for Shabbat.
