Le Bistrot du Peintre
Bastille, Charonne & Oberkampf
1902 Art Nouveau brasserie on Ledru-Rollin, Mucha frescoes, listed interior, honest cooking.
A turn-of-the-century café preserved without irony, zinc bar, red banquettes, all-day terrace.
A bistrot d'antan tucked off the avenue Parmentier, kept in its original turn-of-the-20th-century state, central zinc bar, gold-stacked glassware, red banquettes around a small dining room. The kitchen runs all day on a familiar register: bistro standards, an international cross-section at lunch, weekend brunch with pancakes and eggs, a wine list that punches above the room's price. It has a film-set quality that drew Before Sunset's crew here for a reason and tourists ever since, but the locals never moved out. Open late, dog-friendly, the kind of café people use as their living room for a decade.
Sit at the bar. The brunch is solid. Don't expect a quiet Saturday.
