Ergon House
Syntagma (Mitropoleos)
Mitropoleos all-day food hall and hotel, produce market, day-bakery, modern-Greek dining counter.
Nikis Street vegetarian-and-vegan day-room, the central-Athens brunch counter.
Avocado opened on Nikis between Syntagma and Plaka in 2010 and has run the central-Athens vegetarian-and-vegan day-counter since, breakfast bowls, plant-led brunch plates, organic sourcing, a wine-and-cocktail list that opens at lunch. The dining room is two narrow floors, the staff knows the regulars, and the menu reads modern-Mediterranean with a Greek-Levantine accent (the chickpea pancake, the wild-greens-and-feta-substitute Cretan-pie variation, the lentil-and-burghul kibbeh). Regulars use Avocado as the Plaka-and-Syntagma brunch, the daytime contrast to the heavier Greek-canon dinners, useful on a multi-day trip when the palate wants a reset.
Brunch is the lead, the chickpea pancake and the Cretan-pie variation are the structural orders. Walk-ins work mid-week, book Saturday-Sunday brunch one day ahead.
