Restaurant Tim Raue
Kreuzberg
Two Michelin stars and Asian-modern technique behind Checkpoint Charlie.
Berlin's only three-Michelin-star room, Marco Müller on Chausseestraße.
Rutz is the only restaurant in Berlin to hold three Michelin stars, awarded in 2020 and retained every guide since. Marco Müller runs a tasting-menu programme he calls 'Inspirations', a sustained reading of German regional sourcing through classical technique. The room sits on Chausseestraße in the northern stretch of Mitte and is deliberately undecorated; the work happens on the plate. The wine programme is one of the most serious in Germany, the building's downstairs Weinbar Rutz operates as a sister room with the same cellar at neo-bistro prices, and is the consolation when the tasting menu is sold out.
Book six to eight weeks ahead. The downstairs Weinbar Rutz holds one Michelin star in its own right and uses the same cellar, that is where you go if the tasting room is sold out, and the wine list reads identically.
