Sébastien Gaudard Pâtisserie des Tuileries
Saint-Honoré & Palais-Royal
Classical French pâtisserie under the Pyramides arcades, tea room facing the Tuileries
1927 Trocadéro tea-room, marble tables, white aprons, view across to the Tower.
Jean and Madeleine Carette opened this Place du Trocadéro tea-room in 1927 and the 1930s appearance has held: marble tables, original mirrors, white-aproned waitresses, an extended terrace with the Eiffel Tower across the square. The patisserie made its name on macarons, the éclair au chocolat, the Saint-Honoré and the Carette signature; the brasserie kitchen runs all-day from breakfast through dinner. Sortir à Paris and the Hotels Paris Rive Gauche guide both rate it as the institution-of-record on the 16e bank of the Seine. For an Istanbul visitor crossing from Eiffel Tower viewpoint to Passy, Carette is the lunch, and the macaron box to take back.
Cult-institution exception (1927, 98 years continuous). Terrace seat for the Tower view.
