Endo Kazutoshi's Notting Hill casual, sushi without the omakase ceremony
Endo Kazutoshi, third-generation Tokyo sushi master and chef-patron of the now-rebuilding Endo at the Rotunda, opened Sumi on Westbourne Grove in 2021 as the casual sister site. The room is small and pale, the counter is a long pale-oak slab, the menu is à la carte rather than omakase, chirashi bowls, sashimi flights, hand rolls, a small selection of cooked plates. The fish comes from the same suppliers as the Rotunda. Reservations are easier, the bill is roughly half, and the cooking is as serious as a quick lunch in west London ever gets.
Sit at the counter for the chirashi or hand-roll set. The toro hand roll is the menu's signature; the daily nigiri selection is the smarter order if you don't want the full omakase commitment. Walk-ins possible at lunch midweek.
