The Cut's no-bookings gastropub, what Waterloo eats before the National Theatre
On The Cut between Waterloo and Blackfriars, The Anchor & Hope has run since 2003 on a half-walk-in, half-by-phone booking system, a chalkboard menu that changes twice a day, and a kitchen sourcing from the same St John-school producer list. The Sunday lunch, slow-roasted shoulder, whole partridges, Yorkshire puddings the size of bowls, is the most-recommended Sunday roast south of the river. İstanbullu seconders that comes for the National Theatre or the Bridge Theatre walks here first.
Bookings by phone or SevenRooms only, half the room held back for walk-ins. Sunday lunch served 12:30 - 15:15 sharp; arrive at noon if you have not booked. Two minutes from Waterloo, six from the South Bank.
