Rocca Riviera reads as the room you go to when you want Italian cooking that has been styled rather than just executed, azure-blue velvet, brass detailing, warm wood, the pacing of a Côte d'Azur hotel restaurant rather than a Munich trattoria. The kitchen blends Italian, French and Mediterranean, vitello tonnato, oysters, grilled fish whole from the cart, pasta made in-house, and the room sits on Wittelsbacher Platz between Odeonsplatz and the Pinakothek quarter. Michelin-listed. The crowd is Maxvorstadt's better-dressed end. Lunch is the calmer way in.
