Café Jasmin
Maxvorstadt
An untouched 1955 café interior, Maxvorstadt time-capsule
Munich's grand café since 1888, Vienna's register, Bavarian discipline
The Luitpold opened in 1888 as Munich's answer to the Viennese Kaffeehaus and never quite handed the title back. The bombed-out main hall was rebuilt at a calmer scale; the patisserie counter still runs the room. Order the Wiener Melange, the Topfentorte, a soft-boiled egg in the silver cup at breakfast, or the full lunch menu in the restaurant wing. The Luitpoldblock arcade frames the Brienner-Quartier shopping axis just outside.
Verified 2026: continuous operation, ownership stable, the 1888 lineage holds. The chapter's Munich-canonical grand café. Pair with the morning at the Pinakotheken; the museums are a six-minute walk through Brienner Quarter.
