The 1945 İnkılap Caddesi corner where damla sakızlı dondurma was invented, a Mersin family pastane now in its third generation
The Akbulut family's 2014 Alaçatı gelato counter, a Financial Times top-25 boutique, a hundred-and-fifty rotating flavours, made on site every morning
Mehmet Ali Akbulut runs Dondurmino out of a 20-square-metre Alaçatı corner; the family's Milkomak company has been in dairy for forty years and the Italian-trained programme that opened here in 2014 churns up to 150 flavours across the season. Financial Times listed it in the world's top-25 boutique gelaterias the same year; later international rankings have kept it on the list. Fresh fruit, real pistachio, a proper sakızlı dondurma, no syrup shortcuts. The Alaçatı counter is the original; the Karaköy branch came after.
Order the sakızlı and the Antep fıstığı in the same cup; both are made that morning on the back machine. After 22:00 the queue clears and the counter is at its calmest.
