Osteria del Sole
Bologna
Bologna's 1465 wine room where you bring your own food
The Bologna shop that pioneered wine by the glass
A Bologna fixture since the early 1970s on via Marsala, Enoteca Italiana was among the first in Italy to pour wine by the glass, the now-ubiquitous mescita. Run by sommeliers, it stocks more than two thousand labels and serves them at the counter with salumi, cheeses and smoked fish. It is equal parts serious wine shop and standing-room aperitivo institution.
Stand at the counter for a glass and a plate of cured meats; the staff's wine knowledge is the real draw.
