The Peninsula London opened in September 2023 as the most expensive hotel ever built in the city, a billion-pound, ground-up Hopkins Architects building on the corner of Grosvenor Place and Hyde Park Corner, looking straight at the Wellington Arch. 190 rooms, 24 residences, a real spa, and the rooftop Brooklands by Claude Bosi which collected two Michelin stars within four months. After two and a half years of operation the Peninsula service standard has settled in; this is the new-money alternative to the Maybourne triad, bigger rooms, bigger bath, bigger view, less folklore.
Book a Park Suite or higher facing Wellington Arch, the south-facing rooms are the room product the building was designed for. Brooklands needs to be booked weeks ahead; the Lobby afternoon tea is the easier reservation if Claridge's is full. Largest standard rooms in the postcode at around 50 sqm.
