The Indian Room
Schwabing
Royal-court Indian fine dining in Schwabing-West.
The potato-only stall on Viktualienmarkt, twenty-five varieties, lunch counter cult.
Theo Lindinger and Dominik Klier took over a small Viktualienmarkt stall in 2017 and turned it into the most interesting lunch in central Munich: twenty-five varieties of potato, almost all locally grown and organic, served as baked-potato bowls with toppings the Falstaff guide and the Bavaria-tourism feature have both written up at length. Lamb-and-juniper, smoked trout with horseradish, a vegan bowl, the rotating Tuesday potato of the week. Six stools at a counter, the rest is takeaway under the market chestnut trees. Closed Sundays. Cash and card. Lunch only, they are sold out by 16:00 most days.
Go before 12:30 or after 14:00, the queue between is twenty minutes. The smoked-trout-and-horseradish bowl is the order if it is on. Eat at the chestnut tables outside or take it as a walk-and-eat through the rest of the market. Pair with Schmalznudel two stalls over for dessert.
